This entertaining, smart biography of Arthur Conan Doyle presents a modern day interpretation of the man who, contrary to his best efforts, will always be known as the creator of the great detective, Sherlock Holmes. Doyle was, however, much more, as Booth shows us in this intriguing study of a man who thrived on the times in which he lived. While Holmes fans will be captivated by the various tidbits that offer insight into their hero's creation; others will be fascinated by this living embodiment of the Victorian masculine ideal.
The Doctor and the Detective A Biography of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle eBook Martin Booth
A very thorough look at the life of someone most know as the man who created Sherlock Holmes, but he did so much more. His early life was very difficult, he was obsessed with spiritualism and faeries, and he wrote extensively on world conflicts. It seems that he spent a lot of his life fleeing from the detective that brought him fame (and money) but the latter meant he continued to write the detective stories until very late in his life. The four stars, instead of five, is for the somewhat rambling toward the end as the author goes over Conan Doyle's spiritualism.Product details

The Doctor and the Detective A Biography of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle eBook Martin Booth Reviews
it is visually normal book (if we remember that it's a used book), and the content, of course, amazing. I love Sir A. Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes stories.
Interesting to learn about this author's background and work. He was interesting as well as characters he created. Good book to read and be able to put down for while.
Thank heaven for Sir Arthur and his Holmes creation.
The author does a good job of connecting the different phases of Conan Doyle's life together. I enjoyed reading the book.
This book gives a good outline of Sir Arthur's life and work. The specifics regarding the dates and ideas behind his writings can get a bit tedious sometimes. I would recommend this book to those who are curious about his personal life and those who would to know more about him than just being the creator of Sherlock Holmes.
A Wonderful Biography Creator and Creation as One
The life of Arthur Conan Doyle is the stuff adventure is made of. He was an extraordinary writer, a physician and a just man looking for a cause. I admire the creation of Sherlock more so, now. This biography reads fast, tells the unpretentious life of a writer who never quite understood why everyone was making a fuss over Sherlock Holmes!.......I didn't give it 5 stars only because it is not a literary biography but it certainly brings the life of the creator and creation together. Conan Doyle was a product of his days.....Great Read!!!
Enjoyable biography of Doyle - very informative. There were several places where, for me, there was too much detail and the story dragged a bit, but if you're looking for complete descriptions, this is the book. Clearly it was quite well-researched.
